Glass Material Technologies
Applications of glass are becoming increasingly diverse, ranging from architectural and automotive glass to glass for flat-panel displays such as LCDs and organic EL displays, glass for solar PV modules, and quartz glass for semiconductors. We are committed to continuously refining our glass composition design technology to accommodate ever-diversifying requirements. Also, we conduct simulation analyses of structural compositions to design glass materials from new perspectives. Through coordination with the Production Technology Division, our new glass products are brought to the market with minimal development time.
Ceramic Material Technologies
Refractory lining materials for glass melting furnaces that we develop not only tolerate high temperatures but also ensure a high degree of uniformity and composition suited for glass processing. Also, by improving the quality of refractory lining materials, we have successfully extended the service life of glass melting furnaces. In addition to this, ceramic material technologies are used for the development of new materials and products such as semiconductor materials, heat-resistant protective materials and sputtering targets.
Based on our wide range of coating technologies, from sputtering deposition, CVD to wet coating processes, as well as coating design/material technology, we can control light reflection & absorption, and water-repellency of various materials such as glass and resin films. These technologies not only add value to our glass and film products, but also serve as key technologies that determine the performance of solar panels and electronic materials.
Glass Integration Technologies
We have developed material technologies as well as welding and sealing technologies for integrating glass with glass or glass with resin. These applications require superior durability and productivity in addition to high purity with no inclusion of bubbles or defect particles. These technologies are applied to develop a wide variety of new applications of glass for mobile devices, such as ultra-thin glass laminated substrates, a direct bonding of cover glass to LCD display panels, the next-generation pair glass, flexible displays, etc.
Fluorine & Chemistry Technologies
AGC's fluorine & chemistry technologies originally started from the production of soda ash, a raw material of glass, and now these technologies have expanded to become one of our core technologies. Our expertise lies in fluorine chemistry. Fluorinated compounds have excellent characteristics including chemical resistance, water and oil-repellency, and low dielectric constants. Combining these properties with compound synthesis, processing and surface modification technologies, we have developed and continue to develop glass surface treatment processes as well as materials used for electronics, optical communication, and fuel cells.
By integrating our technologies related to polymer materials, inorganic materials, nano particles, and liquid crystals, we produce new materials and create novel value that has not existed before.
