Fluorine Chemistry

By utilizing various features of fluorine and adding AGC’s unique technologies, we continue to develop new materials and components with unprecedented functions.

Fluorine & Chemistry Technologies

AFP (Anti-Finger Print) agent (Afluid S550)

AFP agent applied on the surface of the touch panel device (e.g., smartphones, tablet PCs) resists smudging and fingerprints on the surface can be easily wiped off. Based on our unique fluorine chemistry technologies and advanced molecular design technologies, we succeeded in developing a new AFP agent (Afluid S550) that exhibits excellent durability. Furthermore, we work on the development of more appealing products through combining this new material with glass material technologies and coating technologies

We provide customer specific CMP solution.

The trend in the semiconductor industry continues to be towards smaller and faster integrated circuits. Global planarization is necessary for high density multilevel devices. Copper (low-resistivity) and Low-k (low dielectric) interconnection is desirable to obtain high speed devices. Chemical Mechanical Polishing (CMP) is essential to achieve such advanced device structures. Asahi Glass has been developing CMP slurries by employing material design and polishing technologies.

CYTOP

CYTOP has achieved extremely high optical transparency, of which the visible light transmittance is 95% or more, with an amorphous properties completely different from existing fluoropolymers. Since this product can be dissolved with a special fluorinated solvent, it can be used in thin film coatings to a thickness of a few sub-microns. In addition, this innovative material possesses the characteristics of conventional fluoropolymers (i.e. chemical-resistant, electrical properties, water and oil repellency). Using CYTOP, we are developing polymer optical waveguides that exhibit extremely low loss at 1260-1650 nanometers, electret generators that can harvest energy from low-frequency vibrations, and FONTEX, flexible optical fiber capable ofpropagating large volumes of data.

Materials for Polymer Electrolyte Fuel Cell

A fuel cell is a clean and efficient power generator, producing water as its only byproduct. Polymer electrolyte fuel cells have been put into practical use as household fuel cell cogeneration systems, backup power sources, etc. They are also expected to be used for automobiles in the near future. Based on our unique fluorine chemistry and advanced synthesis technologies, we are developing advanced materials for high-performance and highdurability polymer electrolyte fuel cells. Using these materials, we successfully operated a polymer electrolyte fuel cell continuously for over 6,000 hours at 120℃ which was the first to demonstrate in the world.

Surface patterned glass

AGC has created light-control glass by using nano-imprint technology, which is a simple and low-cost method to fabricate fine patterns. We are exploring new applications for this glass in electronics and environment-related industries, such as anti-reflection "moth-eye" structure to improve display quality, and environment-adaptable glass which adjusts solar transmission to keep the room cool in summer and warm in winter.
