TOKYO SKYTREE®TOKYO SKYTREE® is 634 meters high. It is a symbol of Japanese technology and spirit.

AGC and the world-class symbol tower of Japan.

The TOKYO SKYTREE® is a symbol tower that Japan is proud to show to the world.
The story behind the number “634m” is a famous episode.

“634 = Musashi”. This is named after the old Japanese province of “Musashi no Kuni” (Musashi Province). This number embodies a uniquely Japanese spirit, rather than just aiming for the world’s tallest, because it represents a symbol tower that brings together Japan’s advanced technology. Among the technologies brought together, AGC is, of course, deeply involved.

Question1 Which parts of the tower use AGC products?

AGC's special glass is used in important parts of the tower where you can feel the height of the TOKYO SKYTREE® and the vastness of the sky.

  • The windows of the observation deck
“Tembo Galleria” located at a height of about 450m
  • “Glass floor” offering a view all the way down to the ground
  • The external steel frame is coated with paint made from solvent-soluble fluoropolymer
LUMIFLON, that can maintain its appearance for long periods of time.

Question2Even if glass is used for the windows of the observation deck, which has no protection from the sun, won't it be hot for visitors?

The glass used for the windows of the observation deck is AGC's “Cool Veil” glass, which has the ability to cut infrared rays.

This glass, which cuts the heat from the sun by about 40%, protects visitors from the heat.

Question3 Isn't it dangerous to use glass on the floor of an observation deck?

The glass used on the observation deck is more than twice as strong as normal glass.

By combining five sheets of this glass, we have achieved an observation deck that is safe enough for people to stand on and has a strength that will not break, while also allowing you to look down to the ground 340 meters below.
