glass-integrated solar cellsPower generation glass with AGC's Sunjoule

New possibilities by adding "solar power & design" to glass

AGC manufactures glass-integrated solar cells that can also be used as glass building materials. In this issue, we take a closer look at how "power generation with glass" works.

Question1What are "glass-integrated solar cells"

Glass-integrated solar cells are glass that can generate solar power in addition to basic glass functions.

In response to the demand for buildings and structures to save energy, reduce CO2 emissions, and otherwise reduce their environmental impact, AGC has developed the glass-integrated solar cell Sunjoule.

Question2What are the features of Sunjoule?

Sunjoule has the same structure as ordinary laminated glass and can be installed wherever glass can be installed. The use of tempered glass makes Sunjoule sturdier and more efficient, even when installed vertically, since power can be generated on both sides of the glass.

Because of these features, Sunjoule can be used in a variety of applications, including walls, facades, skylights, and railings, without sacrificing design.

Question3What are they used for?

It is used on the pedestrian deck (elevated building for pedestrians only) at Kokura Station Kokura-jo Exit. On sunny days, it generates electricity, and on rainy days, it serves as a roof to prevent pedestrians from getting wet.

Other applications include street lights, fences, information boards, and clock towers at train stations, as well as skylights, rooftops, and windows on school buildings.

Sunjoule contributes to the enhancement of the value of buildings and structures as a glass that pursues high design and functionality, thanks to a degree of freedom that has never before been available in solar cells.
