AGC (Headquarters: Tokyo; President & CEO: Takuya Shimamura) has been selected as the A List for water security by CDP*, an international non-profit organization working on environmental issues such as climate change. This is the first time that AGC has been selected as a CDP A-List company.
CDP scores companies by reviewing their responses to CDP questionnaires that covers categories of “climate change”, “water security”, and “forests”. The companies are scored ranging from A to D- based on their responses. Category of water security, for which AGC was selected for inclusion in the A List, surveys and evaluates companies’ awareness and measures for water security risks through the their goals and strategies, water input, output and recycling of water usage, etc..
AGC has set the AGC Group Environmental Policy stating its commitment “ to contribute to the creation of a sustainable society as an outstanding player in the global Materials Industry by efficiently utilizing limited resources and energy and by taking account into due consideration our impact on the natural environment, including climate change and biodiversity.” Under this policy, the AGC Group has been engaged in various activities for environmental issues.
In a category of water security, AGC Group focuses on effective use of water resources and prevention of water pollution caused by its operation. AGC sets mid-long term goals and takes measures for the effective water usage and water pollution prevention based on local risks. Further, AGC evaluates comprehensively unique local water risks for AGC locations by the evaluation of the WRI’s (World Resource Institute) AQUEDUCT** as well as data of past flood damages and BCP preparedness for flood events.
In addition to the activities above, other AGC’s proactive initiatives such as of reducing water usage, preventing water pollution, effectively utilizing water resources, and disclosure of water usage during the product life cycle resulted in the highest evaluation of A List for water security.
