Announcement of the 2022 Blue Planet Prize Winners

The Asahi Glass Foundation (Chairman: Takuya Shimamura) announced the 2022 Blue Planet Prize winners today. The winners are as follows.

・ His Majesty Jigme Singye Wangchuck, the Fourth King of Bhutan
・ Professor Stephen Carpenter (USA)

The Blue Planet Prize was established by the Asahi Glass Foundation in 1992, the year of the Earth Summit, in the hope of healing the Earth’s fragile environment. It is an international environmental award that honors individuals or organizations who have made significant contributions to the resolution of global environmental problems. Every year, two winners are selected, and each recipient is presented with a certificate of merit, a commemorative trophy, and 50 million Japanese yen in prize money.

The award ceremony and commemorative lectures are planned to be held, which could well be on a smaller scale, while taking proper measures to prevent infection from the coronavirus. For details of the winners, please visit the Asahi Glass Foundation's website (https://www.af-info.or.jp/en/).
