The award recognizes AGC’s efforts to reduce waste and carbon dioxide (CO₂) emissions in the manufacturing process of agrochemical intermediates supplied to Syngenta. It also acknowledges AGC’s ability to achieve cost reduction through improved process efficiency.

In this manufacturing process, a by-product is inevitably generated in a certain proportion due to the nature of the chemical reaction. Previously, this by-product had no economically viable reuse pathway and was disposed of.
To address this challenge, AGC leveraged its expertise in process design, development, and manufacturing to optimize process conditions. As a result, AGC established a method to efficiently utilize the by-product while maintaining product quality.
This achievement has enabled the recycling of the by-product, contributing to both reduced environmental impact and cost savings. Key outcomes include:
　• Waste reduction: Significant reduction of by-product-derived waste (reduced to near zero)
　• CO₂ reduction: Reduction of CO₂ emissions associated with production (over 1,000 tons annually)

Under its medium-term management plan AGC plus-2026, AGC has identified three types of societal values it aims to create. One of these, “Well-being,” represents AGC’s commitment to contributing to safe, secure, and healthy lives by ensuring the stable supply of products and services essential to daily life and healthcare.
