AGC Biologics Awarded Multiple Cell Therapy Projects at Its Yokohama Site

-Supporting Diverse Development Needs from Academia to Biotechnology Companies-

AGC Biologics, the biopharmaceutical Contract Development and Manufacturing Organization (CDMO) business of AGC Inc. (Headquarters: Tokyo; President: Yoshinori Hirai), is establishing its Yokohama site as a new development and manufacturing hub in Japan.
As part of the Yokohama site launch, AGC Biologics launched cell therapy process development services at the AGC Yokohama Technical Center in July 2025.Since then, the company has been awarded multiple projects from academic institutions and biotechnology companies in Japan and overseas. These projects include a range of modalities, including exosome- and T cell-based programs.

Leveraging Expertise Across AGC Biologics' Global Network
AGC Biologics is establishing development and manufacturing capabilities at the Yokohama site through technical collaboration and personnel exchanges with its Milan site, which has extensive experience* in the development and commercial manufacturing of cell and gene therapies.
One of these projects involves the transfer of a customer program from the Milan site to the Yokohama site, where future development and manufacturing activities will be conducted in Japan. Through coordination across its global network, AGC Biologics provides flexible development and manufacturing support tailored to customers' evolving needs and business environments.

Supporting Clinical Translation of Virus-Specific T Cell Therapy Research at Institute of Science Tokyo
Among the projects currently being supported is a research program led by the Institute of Science Tokyo aimed at advancing third-party virus-specific T cell therapy for treatment-resistant adenovirus infections following hematopoietic cell transplantation toward clinical application.
Patients undergoing hematopoietic cell transplantation often experience impaired immune function and are at increased risk of severe or prolonged viral infections, highlighting the need for new therapeutic approaches.
At the Yokohama site, AGC Biologics supports this program through process development and analytical method development activities intended to facilitate future clinical and manufacturing implementation.

Comments on the Project
Takahiro Kamiya, M.D., Ph.D.
Junior Associate Professor, Department of Pediatrics and Developmental Biology, Graduate School of Medical and Dental Sciences, Institute of Science Tokyo

“Viral infections following hematopoietic cell transplantation represent a major clinical challenge in patients with compromised immune function and can lead to severe, potentially life-threatening complications. With support from the Japan Agency for Medical Research and Development (AMED) under its Research Program for Intractable Diseases, we are advancing the research and development of virus-specific T-cell therapy toward clinical implementation for refractory adenovirus infections following hematopoietic cell transplantation.
AGC Biologics has accumulated extensive experience in the development and manufacturing of cell therapy products through its global operations. As we prepare for this collaboration, we have also been impressed by the strength of its research and development capabilities, its robust infrastructure, and the dedication and enthusiasm of its team.
Through this collaboration, we aim to further develop our technology into a robust and reproducible manufacturing process with consistently high quality, and to accelerate our efforts toward clinical implementation so that this therapy can be delivered to patients as a new treatment option as soon as possible.“

Tadashi Murano President, Life Science Company, AGC Inc.
"Since launching cell therapy process development services at the AGC Yokohama Technical Center in July 2025, AGC Biologics has been awarded multiple projects from a broad range of customers, including academic institutions and biotechnology companies in Japan and abroad.
We believe this reflects growing demand for development and manufacturing infrastructure supporting cell therapies in Japan. By combining technologies developed across our global network with AGC's unique materials expertise, we provide globally aligned development support services to customers worldwide.
Going forward, we will continue to provide integrated support from early-stage development through commercialization, helping accelerate our customers' research and development activities."

Under its medium-term management plan, AGC plus-2026, the AGC Group has identified “Well-being” as one of the social values it aims to create through its products and technologies. AGC Biologics operates an integrated global GMP system across Japan, the United States, and Europe. Through this platform, the company continues to expand its CDMO services across a wide range of modalities. It aims to support customers from early-stage development through commercial production and to contribute to the realization of innovative biopharmaceuticals.

AGC Biologics S.p.A. (100% subsidiary, headquartered in Italy) has a track record of six commercial manufacturing approvals in the field of gene and cell therapies, where such experience remains limited globally. Additionally, it holds the top share as a CDMO in terms of the number of contract development and manufacturing projects for Ex Vivo gene therapy drugs (as of Sep 2026, based on AGC’s internal research).
