AGC Inc. (AGC; Head Office: Tokyo; President and CEO: Yoshinori Hirai) today announced that AGC Glass Europe S.A., its wholly owned subsidiary based in Belgium, is collaborating with Saint-Gobain S.A. on a large-scale hybrid furnace project aiming at significantly reducing CO₂ emissions from flat glass manufacturing.
The project builds on the results of the VOLTA electrification demonstration project, which the two companies have jointly pursued since 2023, and further advances their efforts to decarbonize flat glass manufacturing. The hybrid furnace will be installed at Saint-Gobain's flat glass manufacturing plant in Avilés, Spain.
Construction is scheduled to begin in January 2027, with production expected to start in the second half of 2027.

The project is co-funded by the European Union Emissions Trading System (ETS) Innovation Fund.
